Born in Casablanca, soloist in a gospel choir as an adolescent and fan of Aretha Franklin, Oum unites songs from the Sahara and African rhythms with soul music and jazz to create a sound that is very personal and current. With her latest project “Soul of Morocco” presented in the suggestive frame of the Sahara desert, she celebrates different musical styles from her country. “I am Moroccan, therefore Arab, Mediterranean and African”, she says. On the Locarno Folk stage she is joined by her French band.
